“Buy American” is an effective marketing tool, but this “Trendy Catchphrase” has deep, positive roots in practicality. This is even truer in the furniture business.
Although U.S. manufacturing has declined since the late ’90s, the U.S. furniture industry is actually doing pretty well. American furniture makers have two advantages, lower shipping costs and better access to U.S. customers. Many American furniture makers craft their pieces by hand, from solid wood and other natural materials, with a careful emphasis on eco-consciousness. US manufacturers operate under the Clean Air Act while other countries may have less stringent rules.
Buying American products means consumers are contributing to the growth of the American economy. American-made goods don’t just support the workers who make those goods, it benefits the entire US infrastructure. When American factories prosper, they hire American construction firms to expand their buildings, American accounting firms to handle their finances and American energy suppliers for power. The EPI estimates that every U.S. manufacturing job supports an additional 1.4 jobs in other parts of the economy.
It’s estimated that almost 70% of Americans prefer products made here. According to Forbes magazine, the increased interest in reshoring has accelerated since the start of the pandemic. They estimate 69% of manufacturers are actively looking to bring production back to North America.
Murphy’s Furniture in Cornelius mirrors this desire and is promoting all made in the USA products during July. Come help Murphy’s celebrate our great nation!
